Early Careers
Legal Apprenticeships
Our apprenticeship programme offers comprehensive development and significant client exposure, designed to equip Apprentices with the skills and experience needed for a successful legal career. Apprentices are valued members of their teams, taking on meaningful work from the outset and developing strong client relationships. The firm is committed to delivering a training experience that fosters both professional and personal growth, while maintaining the highest standards of service to clients.
Structure
At Broadfield we value all routes to qualification. With our six-year Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship programme, Apprentices can become a qualified Solicitor by completing a law degree and passing the Solicitors Qualifying Exams, with Broadfield covering all of the tuition and assessment fees.
Because we work in small teams, Apprentices will benefit from collaborating alongside senior lawyers from the outset, earning a salary whilst gaining real-life legal experience across multiple practice areas. Our supportive, inclusive culture and genuine work-life balance provide opportunities to develop technical skills, extend legal knowledge and grow client relationships, whilst providing enough time to dedicate to apprenticeship studies.
Throughout the six years of the apprenticeship, Apprentices will be working four days a week alongside our Solicitors and Partners real-life legal experience as they rotate seats across our broad range of practice areas. One day a week will be spent studying, gaining an LLB in Legal Practice and Skills, and later the Solicitor Qualifying Exams (SQEs) awarded by the University of Law. This will include online and face-to-face teaching to give both flexibility and the opportunity for social interaction with other Solicitor Apprentices.
As Broadfield is a member of the City of London Law Society #CityCentury collaboration, you will also benefit from unique modules specifically designed to expand your understanding of corporate legal practice in the City, as well as additional SQE Plus modules to align your business skills with those of graduate trainees.
Seats
Over the six years, Apprentices will rotate seats annually, allowing you to explore a wide range of legal practice areas which could include:
- Charities
- Corporate and Commercial
- Family Law
- Employment
- Planning, Infrastructure and Public Law
- Litigation
- Private Wealth
- Real Estate
- Restructuring and Insolvency
In years five and six, although Apprentices will be paid a Trainee salary, they will still keep to yearly rotations (rather than the usual 6 monthly rotations that our Trainees undertake). This is because we want Apprentices to be able to focus on exams, rather than having to adjust to new departments and processes so regularly. In addition, Apprentices may spend some time working alongside some of our business services teams to develop their understanding of key processes in the business. Above all, we want Apprentices to succeed, and as such have thought carefully about how best we can support them along their apprenticeship journey.
While Apprentices will be based in their designated home office, there may be a requirement to complete a seat in one of our other offices in order to meet the needs of the business and provide a broad training experience.
Eligibility
We’re looking for future Apprentices that are driven, collaborative and intuitive. Candidates need to be excellent communicators that enjoy working as a team and thinking on their feet. Apprentices should have strong commercial awareness, attention to detail and organisational skills.
To apply for an apprenticeship starting in 2026, candidates should have:
- Completed, or will complete before August 2026, a qualification that has awarded a minimum of 98 UCAS points.
- Meet the apprenticeship levy funding criteria to enrol onto a level 7 apprenticeship.
Recruitment
Applications for apprenticeships starting in September 2026 are now open and close on 15th February 2026.
Our recruitment process is made up of an online application form including essay style questions focussing on your motivation for a career in law and working at Broadfield. We understand that candidates will use AI tools to help research, structure or proof-read their application, but applications that rely too heavily on AI will not score well, as our assessment is based on genuine personal experiences and authentic reflections.
If your application is successful, you’ll be invited to a pre-recorded video interview for us to get to know you better.
The final stage of the recruitment process is an in person assessment centre held at the end of June.
