Hugo Smith is an expert in estate and tax planning, known for his ability to identify and structure appropriate assets holding vehicles, such as trusts or family investment companies, to manage and preserve family wealth. He is experienced in making applications to court to vary the terms of trusts. He also specialises in inheritance tax planning and structuring for rural estates and family businesses, to maximise the availability of agricultural and business property reliefs.
Hugo acts principally for UK clients who often own family businesses, landed estates or heritage property. He is also a trustee of a number of family trusts. His experience includes supporting a family that the firm has advised for more than 100 years to pass their substantial estate in the Cotswolds down to the next generation.
