A right to light is a form of easement comprising the benefit of the access of light into the windows (or other apertures) of a property through the airspace of other properties.
In an article for Tall Buildings Media, Philip Rowe discusses the concept of ‘rights to light’, an area of law recently highlighted in the Bankside Yards case, which the public are often unaware of.
"Rights to light can be infringed by the construction or alteration of nearby buildings which interfere with the access of light previously enjoyed by the neighbouring property."
