Broadfield Shortlisted for ‘Planning Law Firm of the Year’ at the 2026 Planning Awards

20 April 2026

We are delighted that Broadfield UK has been shortlisted in the prestigious ‘Planning Law Firm of the Year’ category at the 2026 Planning Awards. This recognition highlights the exceptional work carried out by our Planning team.

The shortlisting comes in recognition of the pivotal role played by the team, led by Partner Mark Challis, on the M25 Junction 10/A3 Improvement Scheme, a transformative project to tackle congestion and improve safety at one of the UK’s busiest junctions. This high-profile infrastructure project involved a series of complex planning and consenting challenges, including:

  • Protected habitats and species, including a Special Protection Area: ensuring that environmental concerns were addressed while progressing the development.
  • Open space and common land replacement: ensuring that affected areas were replaced with sustainable land in exchange.
  • Blight issues and negotiations with third parties: handling complex negotiations with third parties
  • Dealing with scheme changes and various other issues arising during the construction process

As well as reducing congestion and improving safety, the scheme boasts a number of environmental achievements, including a UK-first “green bridge” designed to allow wildlife to safely cross the A3, alongside improvements to footpaths, cycleways, and bridleways, ensuring the project benefits both the environment and local communities.

Broadfield’s role in this landmark project was to provide legal advice throughout the complex planning process, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring all regulatory requirements were met and the necessary approvals secured. The result is a project that not only meets immediate transport needs but also contributes to long-term environmental improvement and community wellbeing.

Now in its 13th year, the Planning Awards celebrate the outstanding projects, plans, and individuals who are shaping the UK’s built environment. These awards shine a light on those who have excelled in navigating the complexities of the UK planning system, and we are honoured to be recognised in the ‘Planning Law Firm of the Year’ category.

We would like to extend our congratulations to all those shortlisted for this year’s awards.
